Quilts Shows are Back!
2022 feels like quilt shows are finally back. I have traveled to a few and although they are smaller with fewer quilts on show, less vendors and smaller crowds. I think everyone is so happy to be out and supporting these wonderful events.
Summer 2022
Aug 3-4th I was lucky enough to return to in-person teaching and taught 3 classes at the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach. The classes I taught were all fabric collage and all very popular. Dazzling Dogs and Cats was a 6hr class with my students working from a choice of patterns in brightly colored fabrics. Cats were definitely more popular!
All my classes start with kits that I provide which really helps speed up the collage process, especially important in a 3 hr workshop. My other 2 classes were both 3hr; Fabulous Fish and Wildflowers. I was happy when a bunch of school kids and staff joined the Fabulous fish class. They are students from Onalaska Middle School, WA who had an exhibit in the show. Wildflowers was a new class I am offering and I think it went down very well.
Long Beach was a wonderful location for the festival. The weather was perfect, students excited and many great quilts on display. I was delighted to be able to see the work of Zena Thorpe. Her quilts are stunning and her appliqué mastery took your breath away, I had so many favorites.
The end of August saw Europes biggest quilt show, (I think) Festival of Quilts in Birmingham in England and although I did not attend I did enter Big Frank quilt. My friend Julia Mcleod was visiting with a couple of her quilts on show and she sent me this photo of Big Frank on display. I was thrilled to hear he won a Judges Choice award.
If you wish to vote for Big Frank h for the Visitors Choice award please click on the link below. It’s open till September 9th. You will need to go to Pictorial Quilts and scroll down till you find him. You will be required to add your name and email. Thanks
I am seriously considering teaching at this show next year. I’ll be able to take a short vacation, visit family and friends and attend the show. Sounds like a win win to me.
Just around the corner will be the International Quilt Festival at Houston. This week enrollment for classes began and the link is here
As well as having two quilts on display in the juried show I will be teaching 4 classes.

Finally I was interviewed by Shoutout Colorado an online Lifestyle magazine with my perspective of my current quilting life.
