Welcome to my Teaching page. Hopefully here you will find all the information you need concerning what I have available for your guild or group. I do travel to teach and am now fully vaccinated. I live in Auburn, Northern California.
I am offering both in-person and Zoom teaching and lectures. If you live far from me and wish to save on travel expenses a virtual class or lecture on Zoom might be perfect. Everyone gets a front row seat! My lecture/trunk show is 45- 1hr includes a slide show and a live trunk show featuring some of my quilts and time for Q&A.

Living a Creative Life.
In this slideshow presentation I will talk about my journey as a quilter, techniques that I use and my desire to get other quilters to work out of their comfort zone and to play with fabric. As I say “Give it a go!” I love to encourage everyone to be inspired and leave the lecture eager to “play” with their fabrics and supplies. I will also include details of my trip to the International Quilt Festival Dubai.
Journey as a Quilt Artist.
This lecture/trunk show begins with a short photo tour of Britain and my early, varied career in the textile field. It covers the trials of teaching myself to quilt and how I started making unique, raw edge fabric collage quilts. My work has been exhibited throughout the US. I will talk about what I have learned from running an Etsy shop and memory quilt making business and also include details of my trip to the International Quilt Festival Dubai.
Memory Quilts ~ History, Stories and How to….
Having had an Etsy store for 10 plus years making custom quilts of all kinds, I have made hundreds of T-shirt, necktie, clothing and handkerchief quilts. I will share some of the stories behind some of these quilts and share the tips and tricks I have learned along the way. So if you have a t-shirt quilt to make this might be the lecture for you.
fabric Collage ~ “What its all about!”
In this 45 min-1hr combo slideshow and trunk show, learn more about the Fabric Collage trend, who’s making fabric collage and how I make my fabric collage quilts. See various examples of my work over the years, my progression from only making fish quilts, working through various themes to my newer collage pieces. You will also learn how to make an enlarged pattern suitable for collage, the types of fabric and tools you will need and my collage technique using glue.

If presenting the workshop via Zoom I am happy to break down the format of the 6 hr workshop into 2 x 3 hr sessions as this will give students time in between to work on their collage and get a feel for the process.

In-person my workshops start at 1 day or 6hr. 2 or 3 day also available.
Via Zoom they can be 3hr with time for instruction, some working time but once you learn the technique you can work in your own time after class. Or 2 x 3hr spread over a week or so.

In this new class offering students will be able to start work on a fabric collage of their home or favorite house. Starting with an enlarged photo you will learn about fabric choices, tips to keep this collage simple and stitching techniques. The workshop will begin with making your pattern and techniques for the collage.

On this 1 day workshop using my pattern of 3 cosmos flowers I will guide you through the technique of raw edge fabric collage. This pattern is great for using up your stash and scraps and choose you own color theme. I will talk about creating dimension, various background ideas and how to make your own patterns also.
Cats and Dogs Fabric Collage 1 Day Workshop
For this workshop I would provide a choice of patterns for students to work with a cat and a dog. This would give students an opportunity to learn the fabric collage technique, work it out on a small project before embarking on their own portrait of their own pet at a later date. Part of this workshop I will give instructions on how to make the enlargement and pattern of their pet. If students have access to a scanner/printer they could do this during the class.

Great intro class to fabric collage. In this 6 hr class choose from one of my sunflower patterns or bring your own to create a raw edge appliqué wall hanging. Using a variety of fabrics including scraps we will fussy cut and trace shapes and then glue then onto the design before free motion quilting. The quilt can either be finished as a 15" hanging using a binding or stretched onto a 12” artist’s canvas.

In this 1 day workshop working from a selection of succulent patterns that you will receive you will learn the raw edge fabric collage technique that I use to create this simple but attractive designs. We will start by making colorful pots or vases and then progress to cutting the succulents themselves. I will also include instruction on adding paints or colored pencils for creating more dimension.
Fabulous Fish Fabric Collage 1 day workshop

This 1 day class uses patterns of smaller fish so you can make a variety or even a school of fish. Using a fat quarter size piece of fabric for the background we will begin work on cutting pieces for the ocean floor including sea grasses, coral and rocks. Using fun patterned fabric can make the work easier for you. We will work on putting together this one-of-a-kind, ocean inspired wall hanging. Another good class as an introduction to fabric collage.
Using a Neckties for making Beautiful Quilts
Raw-edge Fabric collage reptiles/ Frogs workshop 1 day
This class is great for beginners as an introduction to raw edge fabric collage. Learn to make a small art quilt using my easy raw edge fabric collage technique, fussy cutting and free motion quilting. This free form technique requires no fusible and is great for using up small scraps of fabric.
I have a variety of patterns of reptiles, chameleons, lizards and frogs that you can choose from.
Bring plenty of colorful fabrics, you mostly require small pieces, bear in mind the design you think you will choose. The background and border can have as much detail as you wish but I have kept the sample simple so you can focus on the design. No sewing machine required
Colorful Cows Fabric collage. 1 or 2 Day workshop
In this workshop students will work from a choice of my cow patterns and start work on a fabric collage. In this class you will learn my raw edge fabric collage technique that uses glue and no fusible. The cutting method is intuitive, forgiving and uses no pattern pieces. Using a lively color palette students will have fun, sharing fabrics, using up scraps and getting creative. I’ll also explain success in using an abstract color palette, how to finish the quilt and how to make your own patterns photographs.

Pets Fabric Collage
In this 1- 3 day class students will learn to enlarge a photo of a pet to about a 24” size design. Using a variety of fabrics we will trace and fussy cut these fabrics and apply in my raw edge fabric collage technique. I will give guidance on stitching and finishing the quilt.
A close up of your pets face probably works best. I will give guidance on making the enlargement approx 200% before the class which will be used as the pattern.

Choose from a selection of my patterns and begin work on your collaged bird. Learn my free-form and relaxing technique of tracing, cutting and gluing your fabrics onto your pattern. The finished size of this project is about 18”. Also learn a variety of ideas for the background treatment and also how to free-motion quilt on the design.

Using Neckties in Quilt-making
In this class you will learn how to make quilts using men’s neckties. I will teach you how to strip down the ties to get the most out of the tie and the fabric. You will learn how to make string pieced blocks and design a simple quilt. You will also learn a couple of other blocks including the Dresden block and Bowtie block.

I have been making T Shirt Quilts full time for over 2 years making quilts form around the USA from my Etsy shop. In that time I have developed ways and techniques for making the most of this style that is now growing ever more popular.
Tips and Tricks for making T-Shirt Quilts
In this class I will share with students the best way to design the quilt with the T Shirts you have to use, every one is different! Share a variety of designs and options and how to combine cotton fabrics with the shirts to help stabilize them.
Although the quilt wont get finished during this class students will get it mapped out, cut and blocks started before continuing on at home.
